Ingredients

blueberries
  • 2 cup fresh blueberries Rinse and pat very dry before arranging.
strawberries
  • 2 lb fresh strawberries Hulled and halved lengthwise; arrange cut-side down for a crisp red stripe edge.
bananas
  • 3 bananas Slice into rounds; brush with lemon juice to slow browning.
lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice Use to brush banana slices right after slicing.

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan

Method

Set up the platter
  1. Choose a large rectangular serving tray or cutting board and place it on a flat work surface so you can fill it corner to corner.
Make the blue canton
  1. In the upper left corner, arrange a dense rectangle of fresh blueberries to form the canton star field with tight, even spacing.
Arrange the red stripes
  1. Starting from the top right of the tray and working left from the blueberry section, lay rows of halved strawberries cut-side down to form the red stripes.
Make the white stripes
  1. Brush banana slices with lemon juice to prevent browning, then arrange them in rows between the strawberry stripes to create the white stripes.
Finish alternating rows
  1. Continue alternating strawberry and banana rows across the full length of the tray, keeping the rows straight and closely packed for a crisp flag look.
Serve or chill
  1. Serve immediately, or refrigerate the platter uncovered for up to 1 hour before serving to keep the fruit looking fresh.

Notes

Pro tip: Pat strawberries and blueberries thoroughly dry so the fruit rows stay clean and don’t weep onto the tray. Refrigerate, uncovered, for up to 1 day; freezing is not recommended because bananas lose texture after thawing. For a dairy-free option, this platter is naturally dairy-free—just use fresh fruit and keep lemon brushing handy for the bananas.
