  • 8 oz white cheddar or mozzarella, cubed Cube for white stripes.

  • 1 cup white cheddar crackers or Ritz crackers Alternate with cheese cubes in the white stripes.
pretzels
  • 1 cup pretzel sticks Use to define stripe borders if needed.
dip
  • 4 oz cream cheese or ranch dip (for dipping) Place in a small bowl in one corner.
garnish
  • 1 rosemary sprigs for garnish (optional) Tuck at the edges for a finishing touch.

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan

Method

Build the flag tray
  1. Set out a large rectangular wooden board, sheet pan, or serving tray so you have a clear top surface for arranging stripes.
  2. In the upper left corner, fill a tight rectangle densely with fresh blueberries to form the canton and keep the shape crisp.
  3. For the red stripes, arrange rows of halved fresh strawberries across the length of the board, then fold pepperoni slices into place alongside the strawberries for red-and-white contrast.
  4. For the white stripes, alternate rows of white cheddar or mozzarella cubes with white cheddar crackers or Ritz crackers to create straight, even blocks.
  5. If you need extra-straight lines, place pretzel sticks along the borders between stripes to visually separate each red and white row.
  6. Add a small bowl of cream cheese or ranch dip in one corner, tuck rosemary sprigs at the edges, and serve immediately while everything looks fresh.

Notes

Pro tip: keep the rows tightly packed so the stripes look like clean color blocks from overhead. Store assembled snack trays in the refrigerator up to 1 day (cover lightly); berries and pepperoni keep best when chilled. Freezing isn’t recommended for assembled components. For a lighter swap, use low-fat cream cheese or Greek-yogurt ranch dip for the corner dipping sauce.
