Chop cranberries
- Pulse the fresh cranberries in a food processor until finely chopped, pausing to scrape down the sides if needed. Stop when you see an even, salsa-like texture with small pieces rather than whole berries.
Make the cranberry mixture
- Transfer the chopped cranberries to a bowl and stir in sugar, green onions, jalapeno, cilantro, lime juice, and salt until evenly combined. Taste and adjust sugar or jalapeno only if you want more tang or heat.
Chill to meld flavors
- Cover the bowl and chill for at least 1 hour so the flavors meld. Keep it refrigerated until you’re ready to assemble.
Assemble the spread
- Spread the softened cream cheese onto a serving plate in an even layer, smoothing it to the edges for clean coverage. Chill the plate briefly if your kitchen is warm so the cream cheese stays spreadable.
Top and serve
- Spoon the cranberry mixture over the top just before serving so it stays vibrant and fresh. Serve with crackers for dipping.
Notes
Pro tip: soften the cream cheese in a cool spot (not melted) so it spreads in a smooth, even layer. Refrigerate the cranberry mixture up to 3 days; assemble up to 1 day ahead, but for best texture spoon it on right before serving. Freezing isn’t recommended because cranberries can lose their bright, jammy texture after thawing. For a lighter option, use low-fat cream cheese to reduce calories while keeping the same tangy cranberry topping.
