Ingredients

salted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup salted butter Soften to room temperature so it spreads easily into swooshes.
honey
  • 2 tbsp honey
dried cranberries, chopped
  • 0.25 cup dried cranberries Chop so they distribute evenly across the butter.
pistachios, chopped
  • 0.25 cup pistachios Chop for a crunchy topping that sticks to the butter.
orange zest
  • 1 tsp orange zest
fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp fresh rosemary Finely chop so it blends into the topping.
flaky sea salt
  • 0.5 tsp flaky sea salt
red pepper flakes
  • 0.25 tsp red pepper flakes
baguette or crusty sourdough, torn or sliced
  • 1 baguette or crusty sourdough Tear or slice for easy swiping.

Equipment

  • 1 wooden board

Method

Build the butter base
  1. Spread the softened salted butter across a wooden board with the back of a spoon, making swooshes and swirls for an even, swipable layer.
Top with holiday flavors
  1. Drizzle the honey over the butter in thin ribbons so it pools slightly in the swirls.
  2. Scatter the chopped dried cranberries and chopped pistachios evenly on top so every bite has fruit and crunch.
  3. Sprinkle the orange zest and finely chopped fresh rosemary over the board for bright citrus and herbal aroma.
  4. Finish with flaky sea salt and red pepper flakes for contrast, then let the toppings sit just long enough to adhere visually to the butter.
Serve
  1. Serve immediately with torn or sliced baguette or crusty sourdough for swiping right from the board.

Notes

Pro tip: If your butter feels too firm to spread, microwave it in 5-10 second bursts until just pliable, then assemble immediately so the honey and toppings stay put. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator up to 2 days; bring to room temperature before serving again. Freezing is not recommended because the cranberry and herb toppings can soften. Dietary swap: use unsalted butter and increase flaky salt slightly to control sodium.
